In the 16th century, people believed their kings were chosen by god, and were not fully human.
In the 17th and 18th century, people thought cancer was a curse from god for evil thoughts and was contagious.
In the 20th century, people believed diets cured excess weight.
Every one of these beliefs robbed human beings of their natural power in life. And, in every case, science proved these beliefs untrue and noted that the belief prevented proper treatment.
No one can blame us for what we didn’t know then. But, now we know.
In 1996, I knew something was wrong with my previous approach to weight loss. I knew because the weight just kept coming back every time I lost weight (and it always brought an extra 10 lbs with it!).
My doctor gave me the hard science.
She told me less than only 1% of people who lose weight keep it off for 5 years, the marker for permanent weight loss. She told me I’d be healthier if I accepted my 240 lbs. and tried not to gain more. She believed any person who was overweight was destined to be that way for life.
I could have accepted this. After all, she was an expert, right?
Well, she was so 20th century!
Instead, I asked a different question: What if our failure to achieve permanent weight loss was because we were using the wrong approach?
And, now we know. It is wrong. Dead wrong.
As I made my way through medical libraries and university nutrition courses, focusing on hard evidence and scientific research, I realized many things.
First, no one teaches us the real facts, (a) because they don’t know them or (b) because they think we can’t handle it.
Second, no one teaches us this because they have no alternative.
That’s like pretending cancer doesn’t exist because there is no cure. Do we do that?
So, I set about to lose weight permanently and discover how to be successful. I never dreamed I’d achieve permanent weight loss myself and then develop a system others could use to accomplish it too. But, as I finalize the recorded version of the class “The Hard Cold Truth About Permanent Weight Loss”, I’m seeing the bigger picture of how we’ve grown away from those old 20th century beliefs. I can also see how I was led to this important and meaningful work.
I believe we’re ready to move past harsh, restrictive diets and excessive exercise routines and start caring for our bodies in a truly human, loving way. I believe we’re ready to take back our power from doctors, diet gurus and jam the diet business’ revolving door.
I believe we’re extremely smart people doing not-so-smart things with food, diet and our bodies. It’s time to be smart people acting smart all the time.
Get the facts. Because now we know.

I definitely feel like I’m a smart person doing not-so-smart things with food. That’s an easier way to look at it than thinking I’m stuipid because I always regain the weight I lose. I ordered the CD set and know I’ll learn a lot. I have a friend who took the course live but I couldn’t fit it into my schedule. You turned her world upside down so I want to listen to what you have to say.
I’m wondering though–if it’s easier to lose weight without the diet, why don’t doctors teach this? It’s kinda weird to think they wouldn’t want to help me.
Charlotte – as I explain in “The Hard Cold Truth About Permanent Weight Loss”, doctors are trained in the physical realm only. They do not have the coaching expertise to look at and change thoughts and thinking patterns (mental realm); emotional intelligence (emotional); or spiritual connection to ourselves. All these other areas are just as important, maybe more, than the physical. Why? Because the physical FOLLOWS and is a reflection of the mental, emotional and spiritual aspects of ourselves. For example, if we tend to drive negativity into ourselves, that negativity is going to show up somewhere in our bodies or our behavior.
My approach is to change the underneath/unseen, and watch those changes ripple through the physical aspect. Changing the physical (like with diet) without changing the deeper realms means those deeper parts of ourselves just keep recreating fat time after time, diet after diet.
Changing thought patterns, emotional reactions and spiritual connection might sound hard but its very rewarding, uplifting work and, WHEN IT’S DONE, you get to keep the change!
